one way to spin this

Discovered a few hours ago that yes, indeed, my upper arms are a size larger than my torso.

I'm going to claim that this is because my arms are so buff and muscular. I'm certain that the First Lady has the same challenge in her shopping.

What Flavor Cupcake Are You?

You Are a Carrot Cake Cupcake
You are a complex person. You have many interesting layers to your personality, though others might not know it.
You are drawn to a cross section of people. You friends play different roles in your life.

You are like a cupcake because you are are deceptively simple. There's actually a lot to you!
There are many ingredients in your life, and you only want them in proper amounts. Being you is a delicate art.

I wrote a bunch of random stuff, here it is

Wrote this in response to a question lemon_says posted this morning and thought I'd put it here

I am fascinated by tornadoes

Can't stand circus peanuts or NASCAR and don't get the attraction of either

I love condiments, especially KETCHUP and consider many foods mere transport vehicles for same

am ambivalent about the dog I adopted in November -- it took about six weeks for her personality to really come out, and it's not always a good fit

I am jealous that roller derby caught on well after my teens/twenties, when I might have had the inclination to throw myself into the ring just for fun and of course to horrify my mother, because that would be totally trashy. Plus: beer!

I recently discovered Mighty Leaf teas during an excursion to the W Hotel and am drinking a hot cup of their vanilla bean with some soy milk. But 99% of the time, if you see me with a mug in my hand it's gonna be coffee.

I hope to be employed on a full-time basis within the next few months.

I believe that if you're sitting in front of the computer picking apart someone's grammar on LJ, you need to find more constructive use for your precious time.

I love LJ but Facebook tends to be where I hang out more when I'm online and I love keeping up with my peeps there.

I hope everyone who reads this has a great day and remembers, that being here to enjoy it is something to be grateful for. (I have to remind myself that those are choices for me every day)

Sweet Fancy Moses!

I recently reconnected with my high-school friend M. via Facebook; it turned out he was in town from Washington D.C. this weekend briefly for a class reunion. We messaged back and forth a bit and never quite connected. I gave him my cell number and hoped for the best, and then got caught up in the usual Saturday running around and discovered I didn't have my phone with me. Kinda disappointing, but not the worst thing ever.

The usual Saturday running around turned into me taking Sweetness to the CVS Minute Clinic in the afternoon, having gotten worried about her ongoing cough and not wanting to wait until Monday to take her to the pediatrician. We were at the CVS for quite a while, as it seems that a good 50% of people in north DeKalb county were sick or injured today. While we were there, we had a lively time talking with a fun, older couple and another mom and her young daughter.

As we were sitting, waiting and talking, I glanced up and saw two men come in, one of whom looked familiar. I jumped up, dragging Sweetness with me, and found them perusing through the eye drop selection. They started to move aside, thinking I wanted to just get past and not recognizing me. But then they did. It was my friend M. from Washington and our former art teacher and yearbook advisor from high school.

M. and I have not seen each other in at least 20 years. We kept up while he was in grad school and for a few years after that, but then I dropped the ball and lost touch with him. I just happened across him on FB within the past week. I'm astounded and delighted at this coincidence. Had we spoken on the phone, we would have likely concluded that we didn't have time to get together; instead we got to have a visit at the drug store. He also got to see Sweetness in action as she pestered me to buy her every form of sugary junk food in the store. Zebra cake, anyone?

It turns out that Sweetness has a double ear infection, with one side being particularly bad, as well as a minor sinus infection. Aside from a cough, her only symptom has been crabbiness at bedtime and a tendency to ignore her parents late in the day. The ear infection diagnosis truly caught me by surprise, as she's nearly six and a half and has never had one.

Within the past hour, our washing machine has signaled that something's afoot and it's not good. There were also related ominous signals from the kitchen sink. I did what I could, being that the resident drama critic is attending a drama, and then poured myself a refreshing adult beverage.
